What happens when robotics meets real-world care? At the 4th Geriatronics Summit in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, we saw something rare: researchers from both robotics and care working hand in hand to design solutions for one of the biggest challenges of our time. Too often, research in care happens in silos. But meaningful solutions require bridging the gap between scientists, engineers and caregivers, between algorithms and the subtle, human ways care is provided.
A nurse doesn’t just support a patient with force; sometimes, a light touch on the arm is enough to create the perception of stability and give confidence.
We came back even more convinced that humanoid avatars, when designed thoughtfully, can empower caregivers and enable older adults to stay independent longer.
